Open iA Writer

To open an iA Writer document, do one of the following:
  • In iA Writer, choose File Open…, find and select the document, and click Open.
  • For iA Writer documents in iCloud, make sure iCloud Documents & Data is On, then:

    • For OS X 10.8+, click iCloud in the top left corner of the Open dialog, and find the document.
    • For OS X 10.7, choose File iCloud…, and find the document.

Use the iCloud Documents & Data service

  • In iA Writer, choose File Open Recent.
  • Locate your document in the Finder, then double-click it.
  • Drag the document and drop it on iA Writer’s icon in the Dock.
To open a plain text document created by a different program:
  • In iA Writer, choose File Open, find and select the document, and click Open.

If there are unexpected characters in the document, close it and try reopening using a different encoding in the Encoding menu.

  • Drag the document and drop it on iA Writer’s icon in the Dock.

Note that iA Writer uses plain text files (such as .md and .txt), and can not open other formats such as RTF or PDF. Try copying and pasting the text from these documents into a new iA Writer document, or export the document to a plain text (.txt) format from the original program.

iA Writer can also import Microsoft Word (.docx) documents. For more information see this help topic: Import a Microsoft® Office .docx document.
